Anyone regret moving to Midland?

Hey everyone, I'm retired and With a population of 134K, Midland is a mid-size city. Average temperature is around 67°F, so the weather is moderate. The median home value here is around $298,600, which seems about average. Crime rate is something to consider — Midland sits at 319.6 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Am I wrong here? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in The Heights. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Eastside for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- The nightlife scene is decent

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a teacher and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 54, moved here 11 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The safety situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
