Moved here 2 years ago for work. Midland has a growing scene for young professionals. Income levels are solid here — median is around $91,169. Rent runs about $1,407/month for a typical apartment. The social scene is improving every year. Would I recommend it? Depends on what you value..

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.

Great post! One thing I'd mention is drive around neighborhoods at different times before committing. Makes a big difference.

The food scene here is seriously underrated. So many great restaurants.

Coming from San Francisco, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are slightly more expensive but housing makes up for it.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Eastside. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Don't sleep on Westside. It's up and coming and still affordable.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Riverside and Maple Heights are perfectly safe.

As someone who moved here from Denver, I can confirm most of this. The weather surprised me the most.
