Midland is underrated, change my mind

Anyone else feel this way? We're a young couple and The median home value here is around $298,600, which seems about average. You can expect to pay around $1,407 for rent here. Median household income is $91,169, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a mid-size city city with about 134K people. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Worth the trade-offs? Thanks! It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

I've lived in South for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The outdoor recreation scene is solid

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I work in marketing here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is average. Good luck with whatever you decide..

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much affordable but now it's solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Raleigh about 12 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Pine Hills. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

No regrets on my end..
