Rent in Midland getting crazy

Alright, Household incomes average around $91,169 in Midland. Rent is about $1,407/month for a decent place. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Any advice would be great. Thanks for reading. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is cultural scene. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 10 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 34, moved here 12 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Highland and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The food scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for singles. improving vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 35, moved here 9 years ago from LA. I've lived in Midtown and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The food scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Dallas about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Westside for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The job market scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 2 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- The nightlife scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much affordable but now it's better than expected.
