What to expect moving to Midlothian?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I relocated for work and The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Midlothian sits at 137.6 per 100K. Homes are going for about $369,400 on average. The median home value here is around $369,400, which seems about average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. Has anyone dealt with this? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Portland about 13 years ago. The main reasons were school and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Hope this helps!.
