Anyone regret moving to Midway CDP (Santa Rosa County)?

Longtime lurker here, The median home value here is around $352,600, which seems about average. Poverty rate is 7.0%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What would you do? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Portland about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 38, moved here 4 years ago from New York. I've lived in Eastside and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Close to major attractions
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The housing market situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for couples. tough vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 13 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
