Longtime lurker here, Median household income is $57,739, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $158,400 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Does this match your experience? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Chicago it's hit or miss.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Highland) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for work and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The housing market is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
