Pros and cons of Milford after 15 years

Random thought, Homes are going for about $377,400 on average. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $377,400, which seems about average. Household incomes average around $110,126 in Milford. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Worth the trade-offs? The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 7 years. Moved from Portland for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Limited entertainment options. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2024 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you value job market, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (South) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Seattle it's challenging.

I've lived in Old Town for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- The weather scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..
