Just moved to Milford, any tips?

First post here. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Am I wrong here?

I've been in Meadowbrook for 6 years. Moved from Charlotte for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Homeless population growing downtown. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 40, moved here 6 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Meadowbrook and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The food scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for families. average vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$110K here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 14 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cultural scene scene is solid

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Bugs and humidity in summer

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- The weather scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high
