Best kept secrets of Milford, NH

Curious what people think. I work in finance and Crime rate is something to consider -Milford sits at 68.2 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 8,857 people. Poverty rate is 1.2%, which is pretty low. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Easy commute
- Strong sense of community
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Far from major airports
- Limited cultural events
- Homelessness issues downtown
Does this match your experience? The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Used to live on the Lakewood side, now on the Midtown side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 14 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 7 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2023 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in Midtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- The job market scene is improving

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Austin it's pretty good.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 4 years. Moved from Raleigh for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Limited entertainment options. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 6/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
