What I wish I knew before living in Mill Creek East
Hello, The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. It's a a smaller city city with about 25,461 people. Rent is about $3,013/month for a decent place. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Thoughts? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The cultural scene is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'm a physical therapist and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 53, moved here 5 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Fairview and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The job market situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for young professionals. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $70K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
