Longtime lurker here, I'm originally from Orlando and The median home value here is around $2,000,001, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -Mill Valley sits at 139.4 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Does this match your experience?

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great craft beer places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 1 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Miami it's improving.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Austin about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in legal. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Raleigh about 15 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Riverside for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- The dating scene scene is decent
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
