Random thought, I'm a college student here and With a population of 7,096, Milton-Freewater is a small town. Median household income is $47,440, which feels on the lower side for the area. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Has anyone dealt with this? Thanks for reading. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from New York about 10 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is challenging.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 14 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Dallas it's pretty good.
