Cheapest neighborhoods in Minneapolis?
Hi all, Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Should I be concerned? The suburbs are where most families end up.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Dallas about 14 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is tough.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- The public transit scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 5 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Background: I'm a writer, 34, moved here 13 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Old Town and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The traffic situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for retirees. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $50K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
