Moving to Minnetonka for work -advice?

Hey, Household incomes average around $120,496 in Minnetonka. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. Should I be concerned? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Seattle about 6 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is average.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Hope this helps!.

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Westside area are decent. Kids love it here.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely decent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Riverside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Lakewood for 6 years. Moved from San Diego for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Lakewood schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Not very walkable outside downtown. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in South. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in legal. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Hope this helps!.

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
