Why I chose Minnetonka over bigger cities

My partner and I are Poverty rate is 2.5%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,758 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 1.5%, which is pretty low. With a population of 53,256, Minnetonka is a smaller city. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to.

Pros:
- Easy commute
- Lots of new development
- Walkable downtown
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- High property taxes
- Boring for young people
- Poor road conditions
- Not enough green space
Am I wrong here? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 48, moved here 15 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Westside and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The public transit situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $90K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
