Is Minot good for remote workers?

Hey folks, You can expect to pay around $928 for rent here. With a population of 47,922, Minot is a smaller city. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What would you do? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Meadowbrook. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in engineering. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options
- The food scene scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely challenging and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
