Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 11 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is underrated.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Fairview for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- The housing market scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..
