OK so I grew up here but left for a while. It's a a mid-size city city with about 136K people. Household incomes average around $86,109 in Miramar. You can expect to pay around $1,954 for rent here. Rent is about $1,954/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development.
Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Friendly people
- Close to nature
- Active local events
Cons:
- Cold winters
- High property taxes
- Boring for young people
What are your go-to spots? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Southern places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I've lived in Midtown for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions
- The cultural scene scene is average
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 15 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a real estate agent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.

Used to live on the West side, now on the The Heights side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

I've been here 9 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2017 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much affordable but now it's solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Italian.
