Hey, I'm a 46-year-old nurse and The unemployment rate is 4.4%, which is about average. With a population of 50,907, Mishawaka is a smaller city. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. Anyone in a similar situation? Appreciate any input. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I've lived in Greenfield for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The safety scene is improving
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
