Living in Mission Hills -the reality

Hey, Crime rate is something to consider -Mission Hills sits at 27.9 per 100K. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Anyone in a similar situation? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great farm-to-table places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely solid and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Fairview) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Raleigh about 10 years ago. The main reasons were school and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is underrated.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 8 years. Moved from Austin for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Limited high-paying job options. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Old Town. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
