So, My family moved here when I was a kid. With a population of 86,234, Mission is a smaller city. Average temperature is around 77--F, so it's warm year-round. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Is this normal for Mission? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 13 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 43, moved here 12 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Old Town and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The food scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for singles. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely underrated and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (East) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Eastside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:

- Diverse dining options
- The school system scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated
