Been meaning to ask this. It's a a smaller city city with about 92,415 people. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What are your go-to spots? Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The safety is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in The Heights for 2 years. Moved from Minneapolis for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
finance is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is improving - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Limited entertainment options. And safety can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 6 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in West. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Hope this helps!.

Bought a house here in 2020 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up a bit since then.
