Anyone regret moving to Mobile?

First post here. I'm originally from Orlando and Poverty rate is 14.4%, which is around average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 58, moved here 5 years ago from New York. I've lived in West and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The safety situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for remote workers. decent vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $50K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in finance. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much stable but now it's excellent.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely improving and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Riverside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
