Commute times in Mobile — how bad?

So, I've been here for 13 years and It's a a mid-size city city with about 185K people. The weather takes some getting used to. Let me know your thoughts. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in legal. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Springfield area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The public transit is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Greenfield. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Charlotte about 2 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
