Best kept secrets of Modesto, CA

Born and raised here. With a population of 219K, Modesto is a mid-size city. The median home value here is around $415,600, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 62°F, so the weather is moderate. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Good job market
- Close to nature
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Limited dining options
- High property taxes
- Lack of diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate

It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Bought a house here in 2018 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
