Look, I love Modesto, but let's be real about the downsides:
Public transit needs work
Property taxes are high
Crime in certain neighborhoods is a real concern
Don't get me wrong, it's still a great place overall. But people should know what they're getting into.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Northside and University District are perfectly safe.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Midtown. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.
