People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Diverse community
- Lots of new development
- Good internet infrastructure
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Not very walkable
- Boring for young people
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Homelessness issues downtown
What are your go-to spots? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely challenging and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Springfield for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The food scene scene is average

The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..
