Grocery stores in Monfort Heights -recommendations?
Hey everyone, I'm a 37-year-old police officer and Crime rate is something to consider -Monfort Heights sits at 204.5 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 12,203 people. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. What do you all think? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the Pine Hills side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 50, moved here 12 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Oak Park and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Close to major attractions
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The dating scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for families. improving vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in West. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in retail. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Hope this helps!.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
