Job market in Monmouth for tech?

We're a young couple and Rent is about $652/month for a decent place. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great Korean places. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 8 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been here 13 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great Southern places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I've lived in Downtown for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- The outdoor recreation scene is improving

The downsides:
- Limited entertainment options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
