Living in Monmouth -the reality

Longtime lurker here, The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Any advice would be great.

Used to live on the North side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Dallas about 15 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The nightlife is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..
