Random thought, Rent is about $1,118/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,118 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 7.0%, which is concerning. Median household income is $43,991, which feels on the lower side for the area. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Does this match your experience? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Came here for weather and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The food scene is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 15 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Old Town area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The community vibe is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely tough and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely decent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Highland) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in education. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
