Bought a house here in 2015 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone about the same since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in tech. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Nashville about 5 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The safety scene is improving

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.

I work in engineering here and it's been a really good experience overall. The job market for my field is underrated. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Midtown. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely better than expected and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (North) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
