Been meaning to ask this. We're a young couple and The unemployment rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $161,500, which is actually reasonable. Rent is about $898/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $59,532 in Monroe. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Is this normal for Monroe? The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Springfield for 11 years. Moved from Atlanta for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Property taxes are high. And healthcare can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Westside for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The housing market scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in South area are challenging. Kids love it here.
