Is Monroe a good place to live?

OK so My family moved here when I was a kid. It's a a small town city with about 15,024 people. Rent is about $1,575/month for a decent place. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Would love some local perspective. Appreciate any input.

I'm a lawyer and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.
