Housing market in Monroe right now

Random thought, I've been here for 4 years and The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $107,556, which feels pretty solid for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Monroe sits at 295.5 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Low crime in most areas
- Easy commute
- Plenty of shopping options
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- High property taxes
Has anyone dealt with this? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 58, moved here 2 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Sunset and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Great outdoor activities nearby
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The outdoor recreation situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for remote workers. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
