Is Monsey still affordable?

Longtime lurker here, Poverty rate is 41.2%, which is higher than I expected. Rent is about $1,780/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $49,095 in Monsey. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Should I be concerned? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely solid and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (East) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited entertainment options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
