Anyone regret moving to Montclair?

Hi all, Born and raised here. Median household income is $76,338, which feels about average for the area. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. Should I be concerned? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Internet is improving in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Portland about 9 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 39, moved here 4 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The outdoor recreation situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for young professionals. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Boston about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely excellent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Downtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Riverside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

I've lived in The Heights for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The traffic scene is improving

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
