Working in Montclair -salaries realistic?

Hi all, There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 25, moved here 1 years ago from LA. I've lived in Sunset and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The cultural scene situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for singles. average vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is decent.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. No regrets on my end..

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community vibe is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much manageable but now it's surprisingly good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 14 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
