Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm single, late 40s, and Average temperature is around 66--F, so the weather is moderate. Crime rate is something to consider -Monterey Park sits at 208.5 per 100K. With a population of 59,639, Monterey Park is a smaller city. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What would you do? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 3 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been here 13 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is hit or miss.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Springfield for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions
- The community vibe scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a accountant, 56, moved here 14 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in The Heights and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The outdoor recreation situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for young professionals. average vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
