First post here. Crime rate is something to consider — Montgomery sits at 522.5 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,059 for rent here. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. TIA! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 9 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Lakewood. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a sales manager, 50, moved here 12 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in South and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Property taxes are high
3. The housing market situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for remote workers. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Maple Ridge area are tough. Kids love it here.
