Life in Montgomery as a young professional

Random thought, I relocated for work and Crime rate is something to consider — Montgomery sits at 522.5 per 100K. Median household income is $55,687, which feels about average for the area. Average temperature is around 67°F, so the weather is moderate. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Growing food scene
- Close to nature
- Easy commute
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Sprawl everywhere
- Lack of diversity
Anyone in a similar situation? It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is improving in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely underrated and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Riverside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
