OK so Born and raised here. You can expect to pay around $1,507 for rent here. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Any help is appreciated. The suburbs are where most families end up.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in West area are average. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely excellent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Fairview for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
- The dating scene scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 13 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

I'm a data analyst and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is solid and there's always something going on.

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great Mediterranean places. it's exactly what I was looking for.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much growing but now it's excellent.
