Things that make Montgomery Village unique

Hey everyone, My family moved here when I was a kid. Homes are going for about $367,100 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,883 for rent here. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a smaller city city with about 34,161 people. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 53, moved here 6 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Fairview and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited entertainment options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The traffic situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for remote workers. solid vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Fairview. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.
