Moving to Monticello with kids -good idea?

Longtime lurker here, People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I overthinking this?

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely decent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in East. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Riverside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- The dating scene scene is improving

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in North. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in finance. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
