Considering Monticello vs New York -help me decide

Hello, Median household income is $62,106, which feels about average for the area. Rent is about $1,178/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 4,677 people. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Worth the trade-offs? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from San Diego about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in government. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
