Hey everyone, I've been here for 3 years and Crime rate is something to consider -Monticello sits at 128.5 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 14,607 people. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Is this normal for Monticello? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Seattle about 4 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..
