The good and bad of living in Monticello

Anyone else feel this way? The median home value here is around $114,200, which is actually reasonable. Average temperature is around 67--F, so the weather is moderate. Homes are going for about $114,200 on average. Median household income is $28,920, which feels on the lower side for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Monticello sits at 178.4 per 100K. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Low taxes
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Lack of diversity
- Limited cultural events
- Not enough green space
Would love some local perspective. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Bought a house here in 2023 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 10 years. Moved from Minneapolis for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is improving - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Limited high-paying job options. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- The cost of living scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been in Springfield for 5 years. Moved from Baltimore for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in North. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in construction. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Hope this helps!.
