My family moved here when I was a kid. The median home value here is around $189,300, which is actually reasonable.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Bought a house here in 2015 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the Meadowbrook side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Boston about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is challenging.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Meadowbrook side, now on the North side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 10 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..
