Remote worker thinking about Moreno Valley

Hey folks, I'm retired and The unemployment rate is 4.7%, which is about average. Rent is about $2,036/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Would love some local perspective. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Used to live on the North side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I've lived in Highland for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- The safety scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great Vietnamese places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely pretty good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
